I just bought 100 acres for a future horse farm.Looking for a JD tractor to run a bush-hog,spreader,post-hole digger,snowblower,possible cab etc. I plan on contracting a local farmer to work the hay fields and removing any heavy brush. The local JD dealer recommended the new 4520 with a LDR and bush hog for an estimated 30,000. What do you think?

That sounds like a good price, I purchased a 3120 with loader and a finishing motor plus a few options for about 6 thousand less and you will have much more tractor than me. ....

For the money spent and aiming for a tractor that will remain as trouble free as can be reasonably expected; I would suggest looking at a Deere 5205 4WD or the 5325. For that many acres a 6403 or a 6603 would not be a bad choice either. I am considering one in the future for service on the ranch. I just don't have the confidence in the electronics and switches that Deere and many others are fielding on their machines. I own a 4410 and it has been a fantastic machine but I wonder how the eHydro and electronic 4WD & pto engage will function 20 years from now? I guess it is a matter of personal preference. For a larger farm tractor, I want a lever to engage the pto or 4WD.
Another option I STRONGLY suggest you take a serious look at is the Kioti DK65S. Probably the most and best tractor you can buy on the market for the money spent in my opinion.
The 4520 I am sure will do everything you want it to do but take into consideration the over all reliability several years down the road. If you park the tractor in a garage, it will probably hold up just fine. Outside or under an equipment shed exposed to the elements may bring another result.
Sometimes a simple and basic design is better as is bolstered by the huge numbers of John Deere 4020, 4030, 4040, 4050, and 4055 series tractors still in use today. ....

I have a 4520 with a 400X loader and a 448 Backhoe and it is awesome. FYI, the 4 wheel drive engager is mechanical not electrical. I am very please with this tractor and would recommend it to anyone. The E-hydro is very nice feature and easy to operate.
This is the computer age and these electonics are necessary to stay competative in this day and age. ....
